The first commercial that Mullally appeared in was one of the McDonald's spot, which also included John Goodman. She began her career in the series that debuted in 1986, The Ellen Burstyn Show. Later, she appeared in sitcoms like Seinfeld's Frasier Wings, Ned and Stacey Mad About You Caroline in the City 3rd Rock from the Sun and Just Shoot Me!. She was the central character in the Murder She Wrote episode called Coal Miner's Slaughter. The actress recalled how in 2012, she had not had work in all those years and was terrified as she was unable to come up with enough money to pay rent.
