Madhuri Dixit
Madhuri has been a popular Indian actress who achieved recognition for her performance in Hum Aapke Hain Koun as well as Beta Saajan. In the 80s, she began her acting career and became popular with the role of Tezaab in which she appeared alongside veteran actor Anil Kapooor. The next time she appeared on screen was in Dil along with Aamir. The daughter of a middle class family in Mumbai she started learning dance at an early age. At the age of 15 when she began to act, she had a difficult time as a majority of her movies were unsuccessful. Then she found her feet and went on to become one of the top actresses on the Indian film industry. The actress took a hiatus from her profession after her wedding before returning to the entertainment industry. Dixit played an important role in Gulaab Gang, a film that explores the struggles of women in India. Dixit was nominated for fifteen Filmfare Awards. Of these she's won eight. Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award given to civilians in India, was bestowed upon Dixit. She also has a reputation for social activism.
